I might not remember what something is called, but I can tell you where I saw it and what it was sitting next to. I probably can’t give you an exact address, but I can tell you what color the front door was. When I was in college, I took notes in color. When I was taking a test, I could recall where it was written on my notes, and what color it was written in.
I still use this technique today! I remember things best when they are associated with color and certain colors really turn me off….like put me right in a bad mood! It wasn’t
until I started doing photography that I realized what a visual person I am. I started photography to preserve my own memories; to have a permanent way to store what I was seeing.
I just had my first baby, and in a hormonal frenzy, I took her into a quiet bedroom after one of her nighttime feedings and set up my own photo shoot. I won’t show you the images, because honestly they belong on the awkward family photos website. But as horrible as the images were, my memories were still permanently preserved. With a little time and a lot of practice, I realized that maybe, just maybe I had a knack for this photography thing!
The last couple of years I’ve lost track of preserving my own memories as much as I would like to. I made a goal this year to do a better job of that. I started my own photo challenge called Candi’s Photo a Day-ish Challenge. There’s only one rule – take a picture every day. So every once in awhile you might see a little peek into me preserving my memories. The Twinsies were having a fun afternoon playing on mom’s bed, picking their nose, and snugglin’. Gosh I love them!
So whether or not you’re “good” at photography, pick up your cell phone and snap a picture everyday to preserve those memories. And then when you’re ready for something a little more fancy, give me a call and treat yourself to a professional photo session. Can’t wait to hear from you!
