I often get asked which type of session is my favorite to photograph. That’s a tough question to answer! When asked, I usually fumble over my words, say one thing and then back track and name another. In all honesty, I don’t think I can name just one type. When I dig down deep and really think about it, it all comes down to interaction.
It’s interaction that makes a session fun to photograph. Different sessions have different types of interactions. Families interact with each other by laughing, joking and giving tender kisses. A mom interacts with her newborn baby with snuggles and joy when watching siblings together. Children and seniors interact with me as I tell silly jokes and make funny noises. Genuine interaction comes naturally when clients relax and put their trust in me. I can recall a session I had awhile back that had me a little worried. There was a busy toddler in the mix. (The busy toddler shall remain nameless to protect his identity 😉 It wasn’t adorable Clay from this featured session. He’s a complete angel.) Busy toddlers don’t usually ruffle my feathers, but this one was giving me a run for my money! Instead of getting frazzled and worried about the outcome, the parents were completely relaxed. They helped me chase the toddler around, played games with him, and let me do my job. The session turned out to be one of my favorites of the season! It was all due to the interaction between the family, the busy toddler, and me, and the trust the parents had in me to capture great images even with the challenge we faced. When you book your session, enjoy yourself and have fun with your family. Take a deep breath and just enjoy the moment. I’ll take care of the rest.
